In order to strengthen the Human resource and increase the quality of training and trainers, and to provide necessary support to Urban bodies and functionaries, Disaster Management Cell was inaugurated in year 2002. The cell was started with support of then Municipal commissioner of Pune, Mr. Benjamin (IAS) Pune Municipal Corporation and PMC authorities.
Under guidance of the Hon. Director General of YESHADA, Mr. Ratnakar Gaikwad (IAS) the cell started functioning by actively contributing its knowledge and experty from Pune Center.
Activities Under D.M. Cell
- Training to elected Members and functionaries of various Govt. Agencies.
- Workshops and Seminars on various topics.
- Design training modules for various stake holders and conduct trainings.
- Prepare Disaster Management Plan for various section of society.
- Design and assist in conducting Mock Drills.
- Develop reading and reference Material for capacity building.
- Provide support for research.
- Library for References.
- Case Studies.
Prominent Activities conducted under D.M. Cell
- 2007 – 08:
City Disaster Management Plan for Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations
Training on Mock drills for village level functionaries from Pune district.
- 2009 – 12:
City Disaster Management Plan for Sangli Miraj Kupwad, Solapur municipal Corporations.
- 2012 – 13:
Village and Tahasil level trainings in Osmanabad and Solapur district in training to prepare District and Tahasil level response teams.
Round table conference for stake holders from education dept (Pune and Satara).
- 2014 – 15:
Under directives by National Disaster Management Authority and state D.M. Cell, National School Safety Program covering 400 schools from Pune and Satara District. This was yearlong activity.
Present activities under D.M. Cell
- Training: Work and responsibility specific Training modules designed and trainings conducted for Elected Members, officers and staff from Municipal Urban Bodies, village level functionaries, NSS, School functionaries.
- Workshops and Seminars: Various topics related to D.M., e.g. Earthquake, Tsunami, School Safety, D.M. act, Mock Drills, Crowd Management etc, seminars and workshops are conducted as per need of time and situation.
- Certificate course in D.M.: A 4 month module specially designed to suit needs of Government officials, teachers, MPSC, UPSC, Competitive exam aspirants, Housing and estate Managers and even for college going students who wish to make carrier in D.M.
- Fireman and sub-fireman course: specially designed suitable for jobs in industries and Municipal Corporation fire depts.
- Disaster Management Plans: Plans for Urban and rural bodies, Hospitals, Yatra / Holi places , Schools. These plans are made as per the vulnerability and area specific.
- School Safety: Training to Master trainers, teaching and non teaching staff, preparation of D.M. Plan, Mock drills and rapid visual surveys are core areas of work.
- Reading and reference material: hazard and vulnerability specific reference material and training specific reading material is developed to suit the needs. Highlight is reading material in Marathi was developed and is being circulated during training which helps local stake holders to understand topic better.
- A library: is continuously updated by adding various publications, books published at various levels. Many govt. GR, reference material published by NIDM and NDMA is also made available in soft format.
